Dealing with Paint Problems

Just for a minute, stop considering what colours to paint you walls, and consider instead how to paint them. More often than not, you end up seeing walls that aren't painted on properly and that can lead to a whole host of problems for your walls – only one of which is an unappealing look. If you're walls have patterned cracks like that of alligator hide, then your wall probably is suffering from alligatoring. This problem is caused due to a layer of rigid coat of paint over a more flexible one or by applying a new coat of paint while the last is still wet. You can get rid of the problem by just sanding. You can prevent it by making sure that you let your paints dry before you add another coat. You might also see some bubble like blisters develop on your walls. This is likely because there is vapour trapped between two coats. Eventually the water vapour might evaporate, but the paint that has dried over it stays looking bloated.

You can get rid of this by just scraping. But when painting remember to allow sufficient time for the coats to dry – as the moisture in the wet paint can also cause the bubble to form. The most common problem you face while house painting, is likely to be cracking. The wall paints start to develop fine cracks, but then go on to turn into flakes that break away from the wall. This could be due to paint quality being low, if the wall wasn't well prepared for the layer of paint or even if the wall painting was done very thin – and the paint was spread over too much surface. You can get rid of this by either sanding or scraping. But make sure that you use sufficient paint and that you allow each layer to dry well before you start the next coat.

Most of the time, impatience is the cause of home painting problems. Don't be in a rush to see the colour paints on your walls. Take your time and be steady in your work. This will, in the end, save you both time and money; because if something goes wrong, you'll likely have to start all over. The wiser thing to do is to be slow and steady and give your walls a good, thorough preparation before you pick up a brush. Follow this motto and you can wave your paint problems goodbye when you paint your walls this time!
