JAMMU: Clashes between the two communities in the aftermath of VHP leader Parveen Tagodia's inflammatory speech in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir reached the state assembly Thursday when first BJP MLAs protested what they termed as government's failure to give security to a religious procession taken out by the minority community in Rajouri on Wednesday which was followed by another strong protest by PDP over the same issue.
As soon as House met here, BJP MlAs raised the issue shouting slogans against the government and the district administration of the Rajouri. This was going on when independent MLA engineer Rashid shouted back at BJP MLAs blaming them for being responsible for the communal tensions in Rajouri town.
On this Jugal Kishore of BJP labelled Rashid as agent of Afzal Guru (parliament attack convict). Speaker repeatedly urged the agitating MLAs to go back to their seats (who had by then walked into the well of the House) and raise the issue once Question Hour concludes. €You have decided in the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee not to disrupt the question you please go to your seats and raise the issue after the Question Hour€ speaker urged. However not paying any heed to speaker's words, the agitating BJP MLAs continued to raise the slogans, €minority is in danger, save minority, DC Rajouri is acting one sided, excesses have been committed with the minority€.
Later BJP MLAs staged a walkout. On the other hand PDP MLAs raised the issue during Zero Hour demanding stern action against Parveen Tagodia who according to them was responsible for communal tension in Rajouri. Ch. Zulfikar Ahmad of PDP raised the issue which was supported by all PDP MLAs present in the House which include Mehbooba Mufti, Basharat Bukhari, Peerzada Mansoor, Ab. Rehman Veeri, Mohammad Khaleel Band, Nizamuddin Bhat, Ab. Ghafar Sofi, Rafi Ahmad Mir, Ab. Haq Khan, Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, Dr. Shafi Ahmad and Zahoor Ahmad Mir. Ch. Zulfikar registered his protest in strong terms saying that Rajouri and Poonch districts have stood for national unity and communal harmony from times immemorial but VHP leader Parveen Tagodia has set Rajouri on fire by spreading communal hatred through his speeches which hurt the religious sentiment one section of the society and the result was before everybody.
PDP MLAs demanded that a case should be registered against Tagodia for spreading communal hatred and nobody whosoever should be allowed to disturb the socio-secular fabric of the state.
