• One of the easiest and cheapest ways of destroying swine flu viruses on hard surfaces is to wash them away with a simple bleach solution. Combine three-fourths a cup of regular household bleach with one gallon of water. Wipe surfaces with plain water first, and then apply the bleach solution. • Non-chlorine disinfectants contain ingredients such as alcohol, ammonia or pine oil to sanitize surfaces where swine flu might be present. According to rodale.com, some health professionals recommend ammonia-based disinfectants instead of chlorine-based cleansers to fight the flu. These come in liquid, spray or disposable wipes.
  
  

Misconceptions

• More is not necessarily better. Applying stronger concentrations of bleach or other disinfectants can lead to skin and respiratory discomfort in the person cleaning. Following up with a different disinfectant can mix two chemicals and result in toxic fumes.
