Dial Calipers

• 1). Shut the dial caliper so that no light is visible through its jaws.
  
  
• 2). Look at the pointer on the dial. If the pointer is aligned with the "0" measurement of the caliper, stop here. If the pointer is not on the "0," continue resetting your caliper.
  
  
• 3). Loosen the locking screw that holds the dial face stationary. The locking screw is typically found directly underneath the dial.
  
  
• 4). Rotate the dial face until the caliper's pointer aligns with the "0."
  
  
• 5). Tighten the locking screw until the dial face remains stationary when touched.
  
  
• 6). Measure a calibrated standard with your dial caliper to ensure the caliper's accuracy.
  
  

Digital Calipers

• 1). Shut the digital caliper so that no light is visible through its jaws.
  
  
• 2). Locate the "Zero" button on the digital caliper.
  
  
• 3). Press the "Zero" button. The display should reset to 0.000.
  
  
• 4). Measure a calibrated standard with your digital caliper to ensure the caliper's accuracy.
