Speedo Fastskin
Sharks are known to maintain an uncertain speed behavior based on the activity a shark is involved with. Under Normal circumstances sharks are know to swim at an average speed of around 8-9 km/hr, but when are attacking a prey of hunting for a kill the sharks aggressive behavior is unprecedented to any other fish in the ocean. The sharks are known to double the swim speed when they are hunting; there are some of the shark species that are know to swim at 50 kmph, that's an amazing swim speed to obtain in aquatic conditions.
This ability of the shark to change speeds at an alarming rate almost instantaneously makes shark the dangerous predator, it is blessed with natural physical features that enhances the shark to attain great speeds and be able to surprise the prey before it could go for the kill.
Sharks physical bone structure and the crumpled skin provides aerodynamic advantages for the shark to gain instantaneous speed effortlessly. The Skin plays the vital role in gaining high speed in the water. The shark skin is made of scales that are tooth-like structures that form groove-like patterns, these are called placoid scales and they help water to flow through small grooves with less friction and thus help the shark to swim faster and quicker when needed.
Motivated by this natural design of Shark skin, Fiona Fairhurst (was a swimmer herself) helped Speedo invent the first of its kind swim cloth with ridges on the suit that will help improve the swimmer {padler} reduce water resistance due to forward swimming movements.
Fairhurst being a swimming competitor herself did her Masters in Textile Designs, a combination of naturally blessed skill and education helped her to articulate a well deserved design.
Fastskin was the first of its kind design of Speedo swimwear that eventually became a controversial design due to one of the FINA clauses which reported the swimsuit to be a device that could aid the swimmer in gaining speed. By that time the Fastskin had undergone 2 folds of changes and had advanced to Fastskin II and Fastskin II pro, which was the superior range of swimsuits available those days. The suit was ultimately accepted by FINA during the Sydney Olympics and was officially included in the list.
A total of 47 medals were won wearing Fastskin II medals in 2004 and in 2000 the textile innovation was listed among top 100 innovations of €Best of what's New€ along side many other important modern inventions.
Speedo Fastskin has ranges for both men and women; some of the well known models are Speedo Fastskin Male/Female High Neck Nee, Speedo FSII record breaker Female, FSII Jammer, Speedo FSI Brief Male and Speedo Fastskin II Front Zip Tank.
