Wireless Printing Options
- Wireless printing allows you to minimize the amount of wires you need to run around the house. When you're dealing with many computers on a home network, needing to hook each into the printer as you need it can be a real hassle. Wireless printing can be set up through a wireless printer or by using home network tools.
- Some printers have completely wireless networking interfaces they use to connect to a home wireless network. These printers generally cost more than wired Ethernet models, but it is the most streamlined wireless printer option as you do not have to have any extra hardware configuration. The wireless printer also only needs a power source, it does not have to be connected physically into a router, switch or computer.
- A wireless print server is a device that can interface with wired printers and broadcast the printer connection wirelessly. A print server can be a separate piece of hardware or built into a wireless router. The wired printer is connected through USB or Ethernet cables to the server. The printers are made available throughout the network to all of the computers that connect to the print server.
- A printer can be hooked up to a computer with a wireless network card and shared across the network. Instead of the other computers connecting to the printer directly or through a router or a print server, the computers connect to the computer and access the printer through it. Essentially, the computer operates as a print server in this situation. Printer sharing is a network feature that can be toggled on and off in the latest Windows operating systems.
