    Import Movies to PC

    • 1). Turn off the camcorder. Connect the USB cable to the Handycam and PC. Set the Handycam's selector switch to "On" or "Stand By." Within a few seconds, Windows detects the connection and configures the memory card in the Handycam as a removable storage device.

    • 2). Click "Start," then "Computer." Double-click the drive letter of the new removable storage device in Windows Explorer. Double-click the "Video" or "Movies" subfolder if present on the drive. Some Handycam camcorders create subfolders on the memory card while others write video files to the root directory of the device.

    • 3). Highlight all the MTS or MT2S files you want to import from the Handycam to the PC. Press the "Ctrl" and "C" keys. Pressing the "Ctrl" and "C" keys copies the movie files to the Windows Clipboard.

    • 4). Click the "Videos" link under Libraries in the left side of the Windows Explorer window. Click inside the "Videos" folder window, and then press "Ctrl" and "V" on the keyboard. Windows copies the videos from the Handycam to the "Videos" library folder.

    Convert Videos to WMV

    • 1). Direct your browser to a site that offers free video conversion applications for download. Sites such as FreeVideoTool.com and Download.com offer several free applications that can convert Sony MTS or MT2S video files to WMV format. Commonly used conversion programs for the MTS format include AVCHD Converter, Free HD Converter and Free MTS Converter. Download a conversion application to your computer.

    • 2). Click "Start," then "Computer." Browse to the folder where you saved the conversion program, and then double-click the file. To install the conversion program, follow the prompts on the screen. Reboot the PC if prompted.

    • 3). Start the conversion program on your PC. Click "File," then "Import" or "Source Video" on the menu bar. Browse to and select the video files you copied from the Handycam video camera. Highlight a file to convert, and then click "Import" or "Open."

    • 4). Click the "Save Video As," "Output Format" or other similarly named option on the toolbar. Select "WMV" or "Windows Media Video" in the list.

    • 5). Select "Default Video and Audio Settings" or "Keep Same Quality" if the application has the option. Enter a file name for the new WMV video in the "Save As" field, and then click "OK" or "Save."

    • 6). Click the "Convert," "Start" or "Start Conversion" link. Wait for the program to convert the Sony Handycam video file to WMV format. Depending on the size MTS or MT2S video file, the conversion may take several minutes or a few hours.

    • 7). Close the video converter program after it converts the video to WMV format. Open the new WMV in Windows Media Player or another media player program to confirm the conversion was successful.
