How to Cash a Check Written to Two People
- 1). Call the drawee bank. Ask what forms of ID they require to cash checks. If the check is for a large dollar amount, make sure that the bank is willing to cash it. Ask the bank representative if the bank charges a check cashing fee for non-customers.
- 2). Go to the bank with the other check payee. Hand the teller both sets of IDs. The teller will instruct both of you to use an ink pad to make thumb prints on the front of the check. Endorse the back of the check. Whomever the check lists as the first payee should sign first, with the other payee signing beneath his endorsement. The teller will cash the check.
- 3). Count the cash. Make sure to verify funds before leaving the bank. Remember that the amount you receive will have been reduced from the check amount by any check cashing fees assessed to each of you.
