How does the body get rid of fat? This is a great question because there are actually a lot of misconceptions that cause people's efforts to be misdirected and make it much harder for them to get rid of fat than it actually should be.
One popular misconception is that you can spot reduce fat.
This causes many people who are looking to lose a few pounds around the midsection to do all sorts of ab exercises without seeing any results.
It is at this point that people begin to think that belly fat must be more stubborn than any other sort of fat.
The truth of the matter is that to get rid of belly or any other sort of fat you must reduce your overall body fat percentage.
To do this you must burn or metabolize units of energy called calories.
The body metabolizes these calories from energy stores it has in it body called fat.
Now, it takes 3,500 calories to burn a pound of fat.
To achieve this goal another thing people do besides sit ups is to go running or some other cardio exercise.
This is significantly better ate metabolizing fat than doing sit ups.
But, after an hour on the treadmill, I only burn about 500 calories which leaves 3,000 to go.
The reason people run as opposed to lifting weights to lose weight is because it seems that you expend more calories when running.
You do.
However, once the exercise is done so is the fat burning benefit.
When you lift weights you are actually building muscle which weighs more than fat.
Because of this the body must work harder throughout the day and, consequently, burn more fat.
So, by building muscle you will effectively be metabolizing more fat on a regular basis.
