    Upgrade

    • 1). Insert the Windows Vista upgrade disc in your computer's disc drive. Close the Windows AutoPlay window if it appears.

    • 2). Click "Install Now" in the Windows Vista upgrade window. Choose "Next" and then click the "Go online to get the latest updates" button.

    • 3). Type the Windows Vista product key in the text box. The key is located on the Vista upgrade disc's case. Choose "Next."

    • 4). Read through the Windows Vista license agreement and then choose "I accept the License Terms." Click "Next" and then "Upgrade."

    • 5). Restart the computer when prompted to finish the Windows Vista upgrade process.

    Clean Install

    • 1). Unplug your computer's printer and network cable. Disconnect any other peripheral hardware, such as external USB hard drives.

    • 2). Put the Windows Vista clean installation disc in your computer's disc drive. Restart Windows XP and tap any key when the "Press any key" text appears on your screen.

    • 3). Choose your language, time and location options from the three drop down boxes. Click "Next." Select "Install Now." Type the Vista product key located on the disc's case in the text box.

    • 4). Choose "Next" and select "I accept the License Terms." Click "Custom" and then click your hard drive's partition. Click "Drive Options" and then "Delete."

    • 5). Click "OK" and select the "Unallocated Space" option. Choose "Next" and click "Format." Click "Restart Now." Follow the prompts on the screen to set up a new user name, password and Internet connection settings.
