Are Low Carb Diets The Quickest Way To Lose Weight?

103 7
The Atkins diet is a low carb diet which means that for the participants, the dietary intake is restricted to eating a very low proportion of carbohydrates, in particular during the initial stages of the diet.
Many nutritionists and dietitians believe that this early stage of the Atkins diet is one of the strictest low carb diets on the market.
For example, during this very strict initial period, the diet only allows for an intake of calories from carbohydrates of 20 grams per day.
This is the equivalent to less than a slice of whole grain bread or about the same as an apple.
This is a very strict diet and only the most focused and dedicated person is probably going to stay the course and maintain the diet guidelines.
The other well-known low carb diet is the South Beach Diet.
Many people who are considering a low carb diet will consider the south beach diet because they believe that it is not a severe or restrictive as the Atkins diet.
Whilst this may well be true, the south beach diet is still very restrictive when compared to a normal, balanced diet.
This is particularly true during the initial first phase of the diet.
Both the Atkins diet and the South Beach diet become less restrictive with time and allow slightly higher proportions of carbohydrates in the daily intake but they never really allow the dieters to return to a normal, healthy, balanced diet.
Carbohydrate calories are still restricted and the diet becomes a lifestyle choice.
This may suit many people and they may enjoy the shift to a low carb lifestyle.
But for many more people this becomes an unhappy and frustrating existence.
For those who aren't suited to a prolonged low carb existence, it can become a bit of a burden to be continually checking ones diet.
For example, not being able to enjoy the odd night out at a restaurant on special occasions without continually worrying about what ingredients have been sourced by the chef.
This can lead to negative emotions such as guilt or anger or frustration and result in the diet being given up.
People may well achieve their desired weight loss goals but haven't learned how to eat a normal, balanced diet.
Naturally, when they stop the diet, it is so easy to return to their previous unhealthy ways and the weight is gained once more.
