The Liquid A1 is Acers first attempt at an Android handset. The result is an attractive phone boasting a 3.5 inch WVGA screen and a 1GHz Snapdragon processor.

Available in a white finish, the phone undoubtedly looks sleek. Measuring in at just 13mm deep and weighing just 135 grams, it's chassis has a glossy finish which unfortunately does attract finger prints, but due to the white finish this is less evident than on similar models with the black finish. However, the overall design is neat and pleasing on the eye. Acer are introducing other colours of the phone during 2010, including black and red finishes. The complete front of the phone comprises of the 3.5 inch touch screen running at 800 x 480 resolution.

Running on the Android 1.6 platform, the overall interaction with the user is one of the more pleasing aspects of this phone. The home page, although spread across three pages, is attractive. Widgets look neat and colourful and the appearance can be fully customised by the user. The 1Ghz processor has been limited by the manufacturers to run at just 768 Mhz, this has been done to optimise the battery performance of the device.

Social network users will be immediately attracted to the Acer Liquid A1 due to it's facility to integrate your phone book with your contacts on social networking sites. This can be done both manually and automatically. Other software also comes pre-loaded on the phone, including Spinlets, and an online music site which displays a picture of the artist currently being played on your handset. Media is very well represented on the Liquid. The in built media player handles a multitude of file formats including MP3, AAC, WMA, WMV and MP4. As is pretty standard a 3.5mm headphone jack is fitted on the model.

A 5 megapixel camera is included on the Liquid A1. this camera features an autofocus facility which gives pleasing results in decent lighting conditions, however, the lack of a flash makes the results of low light photographs less pleasing. video can also be captured to VGA standard.

The battery is 1350mAh , offering a lifespan of 400 hours in standby and 300 minutes of talktime, quite reasonable considering the host of features on offer. There is 256 MB of RAM memory built in to the handset, but a 2GB Micro SD card is also included.

In conclusion, although not as powerful as some of its Smartphone counterparts i.e. iPhone, Motorola Milestone etc, the Acer liquid A1 will appeal to a younger user due to its clever design, flashy appearance and social networking capabilities.
