Do you know whether or not you've got cool or warm skin undertones? Read on for info about how to tell and find out which colours might suit your skin tone best. It could change how you shop for clothing and for cosmetics.

Has anyone ever said, €That colour looks great on you! You should wear it more often!€ You should pay attention to these types of comments. If you check the colour you'll usually find that it suits your skin undertone. The opposite can also be true. While others won't necessarily tell you that you look tired or washed out, or that your makeup colours don't suit you, you can often feel like you don't look your best.

Another scenario is that you've worn the same colours for years and never tried anything new. If this sounds like you, why not try something new? Learning about what might look best on you, according to your skin undertone, can help you update your look to something that you will feel good about. You might be surprised to find out that a whole family of colours that you've never even considered make you look healthy and vibrant.

Your skin tone is important in choosing colours for your hair and it's especially important in choosing cosmetics. The wrong colour won't complement your best features. Colours of your foundation, blush, lip colour, and other face colours are something to consider based on the skin undertone. Some people are neutral but most lean in one direction or the other.

Warm Or Cool Skin Undertone?

Do you remember the days of having €your colours done'? People were colour profiled into spring, summer autumn or winter? Do you know what you are, and does it matter? Well yes it does, but to simplify it, let's just break it down a little into cool & warm undertones for now.

How do you tell where your skin falls? Look at the inside of your wrist and check the colouring. If the colouring is bluish you're cool toned. If it's greenish, you're warm toned. Do you look better with silver jewelry? If so, you're likely more suited to cool colours and if you look better in gold, you might be more suited to warm tones. Previously all warm toned skins were considered spring or autumn and cool toned skins were summer & winter.

The wrong colours just won't suit you as well and while they might not look terrible on you, they won't optimise your overall look. This is probably most apparent when choosing colours is with their foundation. Most foundations shades will veer either towards a pink base or a yellow base. Even if the colour isn't too dark or light it will still look €off' in some way.

Some Colour Suggestions Based On The €Colour Analysis Theory€

The warm or gold color type looks best in rich, warm colors of clothing and accessories. Yellows, oranges, browns, reds, yellow based greens. If lighter shades of color are desired, it's best to go with bright shades as opposed to pastels. Shimmering metallic fabrics in copper, bronze and gold are great. Usually best to avoid navy blues or blue based greens as these can leave you a little washed out.

The cool or silver types look best in cooler colors of clothing and accessories. Blues, greens, soft grays, and cool violets enhance the delicate beauty of the silver type. Light shades - pastels and muted colors - are especially flattering, although deep jewel-tones of emerald green and amethyst violet are great choices for festive occasions. When you opt for metallic fabrics, remember that you want to stick to silvers and platinum. The rule for colors to avoid as a silver type are reds and oranges as these colors can leave you a little washed out.

Good to know, but remember, there are any different factors that will effect what suits you. It will depend on your eye and hair colour as well as well as what you are wearing (and how you are wearing it!), so please don't start clearing all the clothes out of your wardrobe.... but perhaps do go check your foundation base tone very carefully!
