How to Oil Teak Decks
- 1). Sand the surface of your teak deck with a 100-grit sanding block to remove the grayed surface. Over time, teak wood turns a silvery gray, but just beneath the surface, is the original wood color. Sand until the entire deck is a fresh golden/brown color.
- 2). Apply teak oil liberally with a brush in long, even strokes that run in the same direction as the wood grain. Apply to railings and balusters first, and work your way down to the decking planks.
- 3). Allow the teak oil to soak into the deck and do not wipe off.
- 4). Apply additional coats, if desired, waiting at least eight hours between coats. The average dry time is between six and eight hours.
