How to Add Car Speakers
- 1). Remove your car's stereo from its housing in the car's dashboard using your stereo removal tools. Stereo removal tools can be purchased at most automotive stores and are specific to the type of stereo that you have. Depending on the type of stereo that you have, this process can vary. However, typically the tools slide into the sides of the stereo and allow you to pull out the unit without damaging the stereo or the dash.
- 2). Identify the wires on your stereo designated for the car's speakers using your stereo wiring diagram. Wiring diagrams are specific to the type of stereo that you have, but typically speaker wires are designated with colored stripes. If your stereo is capable of adding speakers, you should find at least four wires available for use that are not already connected to a length of speaker wire.

Measure speaker wire long enough to run from your stereo unit to the location where you will be installing your new speakers. Connect the striped side of your speaker wire to the wire on your stereo labeled "-" speaker, and the unstriped side labeled "+" speaker. Do this for every speaker that you are installing. - 4). Run the length of speaker wire that you previously connected in Step 3 to the speaker housings available in your car. Depending on the type of car that you have, the location of these housings can vary. However, typically there are two locations in the rear of the car and two in the front. Make sure that when you run these speaker wires you tuck any exposed wire underneath the floormats and panels of your car.

Connect the striped side of your speaker wire to the terminal on your speaker labeled "-", typically designated as a respectively smaller tab, and connect the unstriped side of your speaker wire to the speaker terminal labeled "+", typically designated as a respectively larger tab. Do this for each speaker that you are installing.
- 6). Screw your new speakers into the speaker housing of your car's paneling using your screwdriver and the tabs on the speakers around its outermost rim. Typically, speakers are designed with multiple tabs to make this installation process easier, but the location of the tabs can vary, so you may need to be creative with the number of screws and the angle with which you screw the speaker in.
