Things to Make With Paraffin Wax

    • You may have a block of paraffin wax lying around the house, waiting to be molded into the next "David." But just because you're not Michelangelo, why let it go to waste? Instead, use this pliable wax to create practical and even aesthetically pleasing crafts.

    Waterproof Matches

    • Making waterproof matches using paraffin wax is quick and easy. Simply melt the wax using a double boiler, then immerse matches in the liquid paraffin. After coating the matches, remove them using pliers or another gripping tool. Place the matches aside and allow the wax to dry completely.

    Fire Starters

    • Use paraffin wax mixed with flammable household discards to create a fire starter. Fire starters are helpful when other available kindling is damp, because they burn long enough to dry out large twigs and sticks. Melt paraffin wax in a double boiler. Line a muffin pan with cupcake liners and fill the liners with lint or shredded paper. Pour the melted wax into the cupcake liners and allow it to harden.

    Chocolate-covered Desserts

    • According to the National Candle Association, paraffin wax is nontoxic and safe to use in food. In fact, adding paraffin to chocolate will make it firmer and shinier upon cooling. To make chocolate-covered desserts, mix a ratio of one ounce of melted paraffin for every 12 ounces of melted chocolate. Stir constantly and cautiously until the chocolate and wax are combined. Dip fruits, cookies, marshmallows or any other desserts of your choosing into the liquid and place them on a cookie sheet to cool.

    Candles

    • Cut a piece of cotton string to use as a wick. Melt paraffin wax in a double boiler. To add color to your candle, break a crayon into pieces and stir it into the wax. Slowly pour the colored wax into a prepared mold. Tie the wick to a pencil and set the pencil across your mold to center the wick and hold it in place while the candle dries. Allow at least 24 hours before removing the candle from the mold.

    Spa Treatment

    • Applying paraffin wax to your skin will leave it soft and smooth. Make an at-home spa treatment by melting paraffin in a double boiler along with a few drops of a scented essential oil. Lightly grease a small plastic tub with vegetable oil. Carefully pour the melted wax into the tub. Allow it to cool to a comfortable temperature, then soak your hands or feet in the paraffin.
