Dorian and David had arrived just moments early. Dorian confessed to David that she had made arrangements to meet with Paul. In an effort to protect her family, she offered Paul her expensive diamond necklace in exchange for his abrupt and permanent department from Llanview. David was furious that she had given away the necklace, until Dorian informed him that it was worthless. She had to sell off the precious jewels in order to pay expenses.
?We?re poor!? exclaims David. ?Not poor? replies Dorian softly?..?Just cash challenged?. Not quite over that shock, Dorian informs David that there is more?..while she was at Judge Hernandez? funeral she spotted evidence that Paul?s body had been buried under the casket. She is fearful that should his body be discovered, with Dorian?s necklace in his pocket, she would be implicated in his murder.
The Brooks-Buchanan dinner is coming to an end and Governor Brooks is getting ready to leave as a newspaper is shoved in front of his face. A scandal is brewing. Brooks denies any involvement in the scandal and leave. Tico is incensed over the headlines and mutters that Brooks? days are numbered. He excuses himself from Jessica and Vicki?s company and leaves. John arrives at the Palace and asks Daniel for a warrant to dig up the Judge?s grave.
Daniel tells him that he needs some reason for issuing the warrant and sends John on his way. Convinced that there is something there, John goes to the cemetery and starts digging. Security shows up again, but John tells them he is conducting police business?.of course he has a warrant! He uncovers Paul?s body and brings it up to the surface. As he looks over the gravesite, a shovel appears behind him and he is knocked unconscious!
