So, what precisely is a loft bed? A loftbed in a nutshell is a bunk bed with only the upper bunk. This creates an open space beneath the bed that can, with creative design, contain drawers, storage, or even a desk/office work space.

Loft bed plans free up the use of the entire vertical space, which maximizes the usable space in a small setting. Most college dorm rooms are a perfect example of where the use of a loftbed could nearly double the usable space. Think about it, could you use twice the space in your room?

Almost all bunk bed plans can very easily be modified to create loft bed plans. With a few small modifications full size loftbed plans are actually simple to design, thus adding the possibility of a full size desk and office space where only a bed fit before. Want the ultimate in short commute time, how about jumping out of bed and sitting down at your desk!

Some loft beds and desk even have trundle beds which stow away while retaining the capability to contain workstations and drawers. Good design and detailed plans are essential when constructing practical loftbeds. When I'm brainstorming ways to utilize the new space, nothing beats a quick trip to Ikea. Talk about some great ideas on how to utilize a small space!

I like the idea of using the space as a work area because I can then use the space currently occupied by my desk for something else entirely. However, the new space could just as easily be used as a storage area. Imagine having a walk-in closet beneath your king size bed. I don't know about you, but we can always use more storage space!

It's time for you to take back your space and put it to practical use, build yourself a loftbed.
