How to Remove a Window With Cedar Lap Siding
- 1). Insert a pry bar between the trim that surrounds the exterior of the window and the window frame. Drive the pry bar toward the center of the trim pieces with a hammer then pry the trim away from the wall.
- 2). Drive wood spacers between the siding piece located above the window and the piece above it with the hammer to expose the shafts of the nails driven through the top of the piece above the window.
- 3). Cut through the nail shafts with a flexible hacksaw blade.
- 4). Remove the wood spacers.
- 5). Pry the bottom of the siding piece located above the window away from the wall to pull the nail heads away from the bottom of the siding.
- 6). Pry the nails out of the siding with the pry bar to release the siding piece.
- 7). Remove the remaining shingles that surround the window by prying the nails out of the shingles with the pry bar.
- 8). Take out the trim that surrounds the interior of the window. Use the same method to expose the nails that secure the window to the home's wall studs.
- 9). Cut through the window’s mounting nails with a reciprocating saw.

Remove any window shims from the seam between the window and the home's wall studs. Position the pry bar against a shim and tap on the end of the pry bar with the hammer to drive the shims away from the window. - 11
Insert the pry bar between one side of the window and the home's wall stud then pry the window away from the wall. Alternate between both sides of the window until you can grasp the sides of the window securely then pull it out of the wall.
