Herpes virus comes in two forms namely herpes type 1 and herpes type 2. These two forms of viruses are very similar and originated from one source. The difference between this viruses is, type 1 most often affect the facial and mouth area of human while type two mainly affect the genital and buttocks. However, there are cases where type 1 is found on the genital and type two on the mouth area. This usually happen when there is oral intercourse and the virus from the genital of infected person is transmitted to the mouth or a person with mouth herpes knows as type one engage in oral intercourse then there is a high chance the type one virus will be transmitted to the genital.

How the two viruses are spread differ. Herpes type 1 is mainly transmitted through kissing while herpes type 2 is passed on via intercourse. Other ways people contract this disease is through the air, sharing of sharp object, skin contact, during shedding and others. People who are infected with this disease occasionally do shed the virus and some time it could be unknown to them which pose a high chance of spreading it to other people unknowingly too.

Some of the areas this ailment affect individuals are the mouth, tongue, ear, neck, genital, buttocks, thigh, cervix, finger, eye which is known as ocular herpes and other various parts of the body.

The initial symptoms of this virus often begin in about 3 to 21 days after infection. Some people show early symptoms of this disease while others do not. The symptoms are fever blisters, cold sores, itching around the area and sometimes headache. This disease can easily spread to other areas of the body when the lesion is burst and the pus touches any part of the body. It is essential to know that after the initial signs of this ailment, the symptoms will go away without any treatment and there will be occasional outbreaks. It is during this outbreak that infected people tend to shed the virus unknowingly. During shedding the disease becomes highly infectious and easily passed on. Another thing to note is, even when the sign of the disease is no longer there the virus can still be transmitted to other people.

Ladies with genital herpes type 2 can have the sores inside their vagina which makes it almost impossible to be aware at the initial stage the sore develops and it is easily passed on to her partner.

There is no guaranteed drug that can totally eliminate herpes type 1 or 2. However, there are a few good drugs like Acyclovir, Famvir, Zovirax, Valtrex and other suppressant that works well in controlling the virus. A doctor is in a better position to recommend the best drugs to be used against this virus. Be aware that prolong and untreated or uncontrolled herpes virus can lead to mental derail, brain damage, blindness or even death.

Infected people should endeavor to eat healthy food. By eating nutritious food the body will develop strong resistance against the disease.
