Are you trying to think of a honeymoon or vacation destination that's a little different? If you like a bit of variety and would like your honeymoon to be a combination of sightseeing, relaxing and nature then South Africa could be the right place for you.
I just recently returned from honeymoon in South Africa, we visited Cape Town, a game reserve on the Eastern Cape, the Garden Route and a few days of relaxation in the wine region of Franschhoek.
Here are five reasons why you may want to consider South Africa for your honeymoon.
1.
Amazing Wildlife - South Africa has absolutely amazing wildlife.
You can see the big five - lions, elephants, buffalo, leopard and rhino, plus many other animals such as zebra, giraffe, impala, springbok and wildebeest, .
You may have seen these animals in a zoo before, but this is nothing compared to seeing them in their own natural habitat.
South Africa has a large choice of game reserves from the massive Kruger national park, to the smaller malaria free game reserves on the Eastern Cape.
As well as seeing all these animals on dry land, South Africa is one of the best places for spotting whales, dolphins, sharks and even penguins.
Hermanus, on the garden route, is one of the top land based whale spotting locations in the world.
2.
First Class Hotels and Guest Houses - you can find a wide range of hotels and guest houses in South Africa to suit any budget.
If you are on your honeymoon and looking for something luxurious you will have no problem finding it.
There are a lot of privately run luxurious guest houses in South Africa, with helpful owners who take pride in the service they give to their guests.
The accommodation is also very reasonably priced and you will get better value for money than you would in most hotels across Europe.
3.
Excellent Food - Eating out in South Africa is an experience to remember.
If you are a big meat eater you will be spoilt for choice with huge steaks or game meat such as kudo, springbok and ostrich.
if you are a fish lover there is an abundance of fresh seafood to try and if you like dining in style then a visit to Franschhoek with its large share of the top ten restaurants in South Africa is a must.
4.
Wine - If you'd like to try a Pinotage, a Chenin Blanc, or perhaps a Cap Classique style sparkling wine then be sure to pay a visit to one of South Africa's wine regions.
Stellenbosch and Franschhoek are both great places to spend some time wine tasting and you will find a great variety of vineyards with a large selection of wines to taste.
The scenery in this area is also beautiful and surrounded by mountains, rolling hills, vineyards and flowers .
5.
Culture - South Africa has a very interesting history and culture.
There are a large number of museums to visit, including the infamous Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned and Cape Town's District Six museum, documenting the memories of the former residents of district six.
The people in South Africa are also extremely friendly and will make you feel very welcome.
