BlackBerry 8350 Tips
- The BlackBerry Curve 8350i is a smart phone that was first introduced in 2008. It comes with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and push-to-talk functionality. It features a 2.0-megapixel camera with video recording capability. The phone has a high-resolution, light-sensitive 320-by-240 pixel color display with user-selectable font size. Its battery can sustain up 168 hours of standby time or four hours of talk time. A full QWERTY keyboard and trackball come standard for typing and navigation.
- Use home screen "hot keys" to easily activate popular icons, such as tasks, memo pad, and the calculator. Activate hotkeys by setting the "Dial from Home Screen" option to "No." This is accessed via the general options screen. Once activated, the name of each icon at the bottom of the screen will have an underlined letter which represents the hotkey for that icon. The letters include "M" for messages, "A" for address/contacts, "L" for calendar, "B" for browser, "N" for BlackBerry messenger, and "H" for help.
- To speed up the download time of webpages in the BlackBerry, turn off the "Show Images" and "Javascript Support" options because they use up the available bandwidth. You can access them via the browser menu under the browser configuration option. Un-checking the "Use Background Images" and "Support Javascript" options will disable these features, allowing fast download time.
- Personal data and other sensitive information are protected through the content protection feature. Enabling content protection encrypts all data and prevents PC access to the BlackBerry unit. For BlackBerry units using 4.1 or later versions of the handheld software like the 8350i, content protection can be enabled under the general settings menu. Access it under the security options from the settings-options menu, where you're requested to enter a password.
- You can improve battery power by charging the unit as much as possible and by charging it using wall outlet chargers. During browsing and using media applications, you can save power by reducing sound volume or using headphones, turning off the equalizer, turning "Repeat Animations" to a lower setting, and by closing the browser with the "ESC" key. Turning off other features such as backlight, key tones, unused connections, and camera flash saves battery power as well. Also, the use of hotkeys instead of activating the menu screens can help conserve power.
