How to String a Classical Guitar With Nylon Strings
- 1). Locate the hole in the bridge that's closest to you in normal playing position. Thread 3 inches of the low E string through this hole toward the base of the guitar.
- 2). Loop the protruding end of the string under the long part of the string just where it enters the hole. This creates a segment of string that rests on top of the bridge. Then loop the protruding end of the string twice around the segment on the bridge.
- 3). Tighten the loops by pulling on both ends of the string simultaneously. No additional knotting is required. The string-on-string friction of the loops is sufficient to hold the string in place as long as tension on the string is maintained.
- 4). Thread about 4 inches of the other end of the string through the hole in the tuning peg that is closest to the nut and on the top side of the headstock. Loop the protruding end of the string once around the tuning peg. Keep a firm hold on both the long part of the string and the protruding end of the string.
- 5). Turn the machine head counter-clockwise to rotate the tuning peg, causing a smooth coil to form around the peg. Place the protruding end of the string under the coil as it forms. This secures the string in place without slippage.
- 6). Repeat for the remaining strings. The order of the strings, from closest to farthest from you, is low E, A, D, G, B and high E.
- 7). Trim off any excess string with wire cutters.
