When it comes to fitness training, many of us need to tap in to all of the motivation we can muster. Maybe that's why The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training is such a successful program. You have the built-in discipline of any good fitness training program, but you also have something that counts for a bit more.
Why an Endurance Charity Program?
Endurance training programs prepare you for your event while raising money for a charity.
You can find a program for a huge variety of causes, including cancer research, help for disabled veterans, education for disadvantaged groups and more.
The rewards are many. On one level, you get to help develop your own stamina, but you also get to attach your event to something bigger, to make your run count for more than you even thought possible.
And when attempting something that’s almost superhuman, like running a marathon, many people find that tapping in to this kind of inspiration – giving of self for the greater good – is critical to success.
What is Team In Training?
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training, affectionately known as TNT, is arguably the most effective endurance charity program of its kind. From its start way back in 1988, TNT has grown to become the largest in its niche, with runners, walkers, triathletes, cyclists and hikers numbering over half a million…and counting.
Participants from all walks of life have raised more than $1.4 billion for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, which exists to find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients.
Participants ranging from first time runners to seasoned endurance athletes are provided with professional coaches who are trained to challenge and motivate them to do their best.
What Events do they Train For?
With full or half marathons, triathlons, cycling and hiking events, you don’t necessarily need to be an iron man, but if you are, there is an event for you. If cycling is more your speed, you may be interested in the 100-mile (century) bicycle ride. Coaches will expand your fitness level with workouts, nutrition and hydration clinics. And you'll have staff members to help with fundraising support.
Team In Training has more than 1,100 coaches working throughout the United States and Canada to help get participants in shape to complete the event of their choosing. The help doesn’t stop with the simple mechanics, though, and coaches can be your go-to resource on things like purchasing the right apparel, improving racing technique or diet.
Moms and moms-to-be may opt for Moms In Training, with a flexible 8-10 week workout program and the opportunity to complete a 3-6 mile walk or run in the community.
If you want to show your support for the fight against blood cancers in ways that do not involve much physical activity, they are always looking for volunteers. Volunteers are make-or-break when it comes to logistics of events and even program promotion.
