    • 1). Determine the particle's size, in microns. A gem polish, for instance, might have a particle size of 3 microns.

    • 2). Divide the measurement, in microns, by 11,764.7. With this example: 3 / 11764.7 = approximately 0.000255.

    • 3). Raise the result to the power of -1.0685: 0.000255 ^ -1.0685 = 6,912, or a grit size of roughly 7,000.
