How to Decorate a Credenza

    • 1). Remove everything from the credenza so you can start with a clean slate. Keep any other furniture at least 3 feet from the credenza to maximize traffic flow around the room and prevent the space from appearing cluttered.

    • 2). Paint the credenza if it needs an updated appearance. Stain is a traditional look for a credenza, though you can sand and paint it any color you wish to enhance the look of the room. Change outdated hardware for sleek or classic designs.

    • 3). Place decorative dishes on the credenza when not in use. Display a large serving platter or bowl in the center of the cabinet and pair it with matching knickknacks on either side to provide symmetry to the entire display. Keep the decor approximately the same size to create balance. Limit the decorations to four or five pieces to prevent a cluttered appearance.

    • 4). Store often-used items in the credenza for easy access prior to serving. Dishes, serving platters, candlesticks or vases all fit within the various-sized drawers or cabinets.
