Inside the vast courtyard, I was greeted by an attendant in formal costume complete with a top hat. Once inside the lobby, however, I was impressed by this fine grand hotel that wasn't the least bit stuffy or old-fashioned. The stylishly modern furnishings, mixed with original historic elements (hand-carved doors, a dramatic white marble staircase) made a memorable impact. Sofitel The Grand Amsterdam is located within walking distance of the Van Gogh Museum and other attractions.
