Vertical Grill Cooking
- 1). Pull the wire food basket straight up from the center compartment at the top of the grill or the center slot at the front of the grill, using the handle or handles attached to the basket.
- 2). Slide out the drip pan at the bottom of the grill and fill it with water.
- 3). Open the doors on the top left and right of a vertical charcoal grill and fill with coals on each side. Light the fire normally using the vent holes at the bottom. Turn the burner control knob on a propane grill to the lighting position and press the igniter button on the side.
- 4). Open the cover on one side of the wire basket and place food inside for grilling. The basket tends to work best when filled, so food is less likely to slide when the basket is turned vertically for insertion in the grill. Close the cover.
- 5). Insert the wire basket filled with food into its compartment when the charcoal burns white or after a propane grill has preheated for five minutes.
- 6). Grill according to your recipe, cutting the cooking time in half since you do not need to flip the food. For example, if you normally grill 1/3-pound hamburgers for six minutes on each side (12 minutes total) for medium-done meat, then remove the hamburgers from your vertical grill after six minutes, using a hot mitt to grab the basket handle.
- 7). Slide out the drip pan at the bottom of the cooking chamber and clean after the grill has cooled completely.
