Original iPod to Computer

• 1). Turn on your computer and plug in the original iPod using the iPod USB cable.
  
  
• 2). Open iTunes if it does not automatically open. Locate your iPod in the left pane under "Devices."
  
  
• 3). Enable disk use on the iPod. You may already have this feature enabled, but if you do not, you will need to in order to transfer songs from your iPod to your computer. To do this, click the "Summary" tab at the top of iTunes. Click the check box labeled "Enable Disk Use." Also check the box labeled "Manually manage music and videos."
  
  
• 4). Locate and find your iPod on your computer. Now that you have enabled the iPod for disk use, it mounts on your computer much like an external hard drive. On a Windows computer, click "Start" and then "My Computer." Double-click your iPod under "Devices with removable storage." On a Mac, simply double-click your iPod from your desktop.
  
  
• 5). Locate the folder labeled "iTunes" inside of your iPod. Drag this folder onto your desktop. It may take a few minutes to transfer a large amount of data.
  
  
• 6). Open iTunes again and create a new playlist. Click the "Plus" icon in the lower-left corner of iTunes. Name the playlist something memorable like "Old iPod."
  
  
• 7). Import the iTunes folder that you copied onto your desktop into the playlist you just created. To do this, simply drag the folder on top of the playlist in iTunes. The songs are now ready to be transferred to your new iPod.
  
  
• 8). Eject your original iPod by clicking the "Eject" button next to the iPod in the left pane of iTunes. Unplug the iPod once you have ejected it.
  
  

Transfer songs from Computer to New iPod

• 1). Plug your new iPod into your computer using the iPod USB cable. Since iTunes is still open, your new iPod appears in the left pane under "Devices."
  
  
• 2). Click the iPod icon in the left pane to open the iPod. Click the "Music" tab located at the top of iTunes.
  
  
• 3). Click the check box next to "Selected playlists, artists, and genres." This allows you to sync specific playlists to your iPod.
  
  
• 4). Select the playlist you previously created named "Old iPod."
  
  
• 5). Click the "Sync" button and the entire playlist, which contains all of the songs from your old iPod, is added to your new iPod.
