Even people who did not know about Kahlo before were introduced to her by the 2002 movie Frida and they make their way to Mexico City due to their curiosity.
You may then be wondering where you can find her work during your trip.
Fortunately there are several museums and galleries in Mexico City where you can learn more about the artist.
Museo Frida Kahlo The Museo Frida Kahlo or the Blue House (Casa Azul) was Frida's house and it is located in calle Londres 247 in Coyoacan.
Here you will find how the artist lived and what the interaction was with her residence.
The Frida Kahlo museum is not as big as other museums in the city, but it is still one of the most visited by tourists.
This location is perfect to get more acquainted with the painter and with Diego Rivera.
You will learn how she lived, the pain of her many surgeries and eventually how she died.
You will also find several of her paintings here.
To get to the Frida Kahlo Museum you would have to go to the Coyoacan Metro Station or the Viveros station.
Museo Casa Estudio Diego Rivera y Frida Kahlo This museum was also a place where the famous artist couple lived from 1934 to 1940.
It is important to know that this museum focuses more on the art and life of Diego Rivera than that of Frida.
You can still learn a lot about her here as well.
Memorabilia and changing exhibits are shown here.
It is recommended that you visit this museum after the blue house, but it should not be skipped.
To get here you will need to take the metro to the San Angel stop.
Museo Dolores Olmedo The Museo Dolores Olmedo is located to the south of Mexico City and to get to it you will need to take the tren ligero to La Noria and walk a couple of blocks.
The museum got its permanent Kahlo and Rivera exhibits due to the fact that Dolores Olmedo was a supporter of Kahlo until she died.
You will find photography detailing the life of Frida and Diego Rivera as well as some of their best work.
This museum may not be close to the center of Mexico City, but you should try to make your way there.
