Fasting is becoming increasingly popular as a weight loss method.
There are some benefits to fasting, but reliable, long-term weight loss isn't one of them.
And if done incorrectly, fasting can be damaging to your health.
Many people don't realize this, but there are two things you don't want to decrease too much when you're trying to lose weight: your water intake and (surprisingly) your caloric intake.
Fasting will always reduce your caloric intake dramatically-after all, that's the point! And when you eat substantially less, your body notices and reduces your metabolic rate, which means that you start burning fewer calories on a daily basis.
To lose weight, you have to burn something.
As a result, fasting will stop weight gain-but it's a gamble in terms of removing the weight you've already put on.
Fasting can potentially decrease your water intake as well; while most fasting regimes call for consumption of lots of water, you are removing many foods that may have been a major source of water in your diet.
If you were eating a lot of fruit, for instance, and stopped, you'd be consuming less water, since fruit tends to have a high water content.
If you're trying to figure out how to lose weight fasting, try a different approach first.
Don't eliminate your diet...
just change it around.
It might surprise you to learn that unless you're seriously overeating now, eating less or eating specific foods isn't the key.
Increasing your metabolism is the most reliable way to burn more calories and lose weight.
