Melbourne Tour

105 2
While everybody longs to see the Sydney Opera House, the quaint area of Melbourne chills and lies back with an equally attractive list of things to do and places to go to. If you're visiting Australia, include Melbourne in your trip. You will not regret it. Need more convincing? Here's a rundown of what you should check out when you're in the area.

Melbourne Aquarium

€ See sharks muster all their physical might just to devour their meal of the day during the feeding presentation that happens twice a day.
€ Appreciate the sea without having to dive through the 360-degree Oceanarium, giving you a view of the ocean and all the creatures living in it.
€ Learn from and be amazed at the Great Barrier Reef exhibit, Australia's prized natural kingdom. It's not called Great Barrier Reef for nothing.

Queen Victoria Market

€ Hunt for good finds for yourself and your family back home. You can find souvenirs, clothes and whatnots at your best price, as long as you know how to haggle right.
€ If you have a stove back where you're staying in Melbourne, try cooking the fresh catch available at the market. Don't miss the fruits too; they make for great snacks while strolling the streets of Melbourne.
€ Go through each and every precinct in the market - from the fruits and veggies to the meat to the food court!

Werribee Open Range Zoo (30 minutes away from Melbourne)

€ 225 hectares of land teeming with wildlife. And the animals are not caged! You'll surely be in for an adventure at the Werribee Zoo.
€ A 40-minute safari tour lets you see giraffes, rhinos and antelopes in their natural environment - uncaged and free.
€ The Pula Reserve Walking Trail lets you view animals at your own pace. Prepare to meet a pride of lions, a family of playful monkeys and a group of hippos.

Skydeck 88

€ Get ready for some thrill! Skydeck 88 propels you to the 88th floor of the Eureka Tower, in only about 40 seconds. If only our office elevators worked the same way.
€ And when you get to the top, you will be slid out to the edge of the building, inside a glass cube that protrudes out of the tower, giving you an unobstructed view of the ground below! Not for the faint-hearted!

Other information

€ Melbourne is like a little Europe. It is more laid back than the metropolitan Sydney. So don't waste your plane tickets to Australia thinking that only Sydney is worth your time.
€ Ride the Melbourne City Circle Tram, which gives free ride to tourists, and gives information on the areas you pass by through a recorded audio track.
€ You can explore the area by just walking. Don't be scared to make a turn towards that curious alley, for you will most likely see a great restaurant or a nice shop.
