Windows Image Acquisition Problems
- When using imaging devices and peripherals, users can encounter an error stating the "service cannot be started because it is disabled or it has no enabled devices associated," which means WIA for the device has to be activated. Choose "Manual" as the start-up type. If the device still does not work, install its driver from its manufacturer's website.
- Removing a peripheral while viewing images and placing it back into a different port can cause an error or make it appear as though the images are no longer available. Plugging the peripheral back into the original port you used will allow you to access the images. Alternatively, you can also create a new device ID for the second port.
- Driver-level errors often require user intervention to correct and are noted in the event log. Microsoft references over 15 WIA errors, such as jammed paper paths, locked scanner heads, incorrect settings and busy devices. Troubleshooting varies by error pop-up, but in general, make sure the device is properly connected, powered on and online.
