    • 1). Find the right USB turntable. There are a lot of options for USB turntables on the market today. You can spend anywhere from $70 to $300 for a quality device. Ion and Sony each make USB turntables that produce a good quality sound for around $70 and $120 respectively. Both of these come with the software needed for digitizing your vinyl. Numark also has a popular turntable on the market, though this one I have not personally played with. It runs a little higher than the Ion at around $80. Whatever turntable you choose, be sure that it is compatible with your computer. All three turntables listed here are PC and Mac compatible, but that is not always the case.

    • 2). Install the recording software that came with your turntable, Put the CD-RW in your computer's drive and follow the manufacturer's instructions. Make sure that the turntable is connected via USB cable to your computer before installing.

    • 3). Run the software and play your record on the turntable. Make sure that you've cleaned the record before you play it, as this will lead to pops and crackles on the digital copy. The Ion recording software can do all of the work for you. It lets you record your music directly into to your iTunes library. Other software will create a MP3 files that you can then burn onto a CD.

    • 4). Burn your CD. For this, you will need software such as Nero or Roxio. If you're an iTunes user, you can use the built-in burning capability in iTunes. Make sure you have a blank CD-RW in your drive, drag and drop the music that you ripped from the record into your burn folder, and let it go. In just a few minutes, you'll have a CD copy of your favorite record.
