Feeling itchy? Can't stop your hand from going to un-mentionable places in public? Before you scratch yourself till your arteries and nerves start to show, try out these easy and natural remedies for an itchy skin which will bring you instant relief.
Before anything, remember that scratching, while really gratifying really is not a solution; if anything it ends up opening your skin to more infection.
Now if you have an itchy skin you do not need to get some lotion or see the doctor just yet, the remedies I am about to reveal have been used since ages and work out just fine.
Baking Soda: If your itch is localized, all you need to do is make a paste with 3 parts baking soda plus 1 part water and apply it to your skin.
Allow it to dry until it begins to fall; it will bring you immediate relief.
If you have wide-spread itching then you can mix 1 cup of baking soda to a tub of warm water and soak in it for about 30 minutes.
Oatmeal: If baking soda sounds intimidating, try using oatmeal, it works fine to.
Colloidal (finely ground, powdery) oatmeal can be used to treat any form of itch ranging from mosquito bite to poison ivy burns and eczema.
Add one to two cups of oatmeal to a tub of lukewarm water and soak in it for ten to fifteen minutes.
Remember that the water should not be hot as it opens up your skin causing it to loose oils making it drier, hence itchier.
Lemon: Lemon is a popular remedy for an itchy skin the world over.
Lemon juice has certain anti-inflammatory and anesthetic properties which can bring a stubborn itch to a gratifying end.
Lemon works best for treating localized itches.
Aloe Vera: This is hands down the best method of treating itchy skin.
All you need to do is break a leaf of Aloe Vera and apply the oozing gel to the itch.
Aloe Vera also has anti-bacterial and anti fungal properties, in fact many commercial products use it and even proudly proclaim this in their ads.
Suffice to say using Aloe Vera straight on your itch will work! Moisturizer: One of the main causes of an itch besides fungal and bacterial activity is dry skin.
Since this tends to happen most in the winters, people end up with those unbearable itches during those cold months.
Two ways out of this: use a moisturizer so that your skin remains soft and succulent, or, get a humidifier installed in your home so that a proper limit of humidity is maintained.
If you live in a cold place then you really cannot do without a humidifier anyways.
These are some of the most popular and easy "cures" for a troubling itch.
Itches, being common can however be prevented with proper precautions.
Keep yourself well moisturized; take baths twice a day so that any fungal or bacterial growth gets washed away and you will probably never have to deal with an itchy problem.
The old adage precaution is (way) better than cure applies here and applies well!
