How to Make Sure You Get a Perfectly Fitting Motorcycle Helmet

Although fun, exciting and adrenaline pumping, motorcycles are still very dangerous. In order to protect oneself from dangers, you must have correctly fitting protective wear - as this may one day save your life! Although motorcycle protective gear can be expensive, due to accumulative costs of each piece, it's worth every penny! One of the protective pieces you will have to think about is the helmet. This is vital to protecting your head and if it is too loose or too tight, it might not do its job as it should. Thus it is vital that you find a helmet that fits you precisely.

In order to find the perfect fitting motorcycle helmet, the first thing you must do is measure your head. Get a measuring tape and paper and pen in order to record the measurements you take. Decide what measurement you're going to use (i.e. cms or inches) and then measure your head. Take the measuring tape and put it about an inch above your eyebrows and bring around your head so that it lies just above your ears. You should be measuring the largest part of your head. Measure it a few times to get a rounded estimate of your head size.

Next use a motorcycle helmet chart and correlate the sizing chart with your measurement in inches. Sizing guides will depend on the brand of helmet you intend on buying as size description varies from one brand to another. But generally 52cm translates as an xx-small and 64 cm as an xx-large.

Then go into the shop and pick out the helmet you want in your foretold size. Try it on and see if it fits. If it doesn't fit you, you will experience one of a few signs, these include:

(1) It feels physically too tight,

(2) Your head does not reach the top of the helmet,

(3) You are not able to pull the helmet down to your ears;

(4) It causes you physical discomfort or pain.

If you experience any of these, it's best that you try on the next size up. If you still can't find an appropriate size within that brand, try on a few other brands until you find a comfortably fitting one. Get the sales staff to help you as they might have a clue what will be the best helmet for your head size.

After finding the correct sized helmet, you can then think about the colour, style and other vital safety gear.
