How to Partition a Basic Disk

    • 1). Click "Start" and type "Create Partition" in the Windows search box. Click "Create and format hard disk partitions" on the results that appear to open the Windows Disk Management utility.

    • 2). Right-click the basic disk's unallocated area and select "New Simple Volume." Enter the size that you want to make the partition in megabytes and click "Next."

    • 3). Choose a drive letter from the drop-down menu or accept the default letter and click "Next."

    • 4). Click "Next" on the "Format Partition" dialog box if you want to format the drive with the default settings. Select "Do not format this volume" if you wish to not format it at this time.

    • 5). Click "Next" and "Finish" to create and format the partition.
