Army Personnel Recovery Training
- Field Manuel 3-50.1 is a classified document that specifies tactics in personnel recovery, and training is based on those tactics. Lessons on time sensitivity and accurate reporting of the event to command, location of the missing service member, development of the plan to recover, the need for tactical support, and the execution of plan are all part of that training. During peacetime, soldiers practice recoveries during mock scenarios.
- Army doctrine requires effectiveness in personnel recovery and provides many opportunities for the soldier to train. Basic and advanced training are the first two opportunities the soldier has to practice personnel recovery, followed by monthly and unit training. Recovery training is included in all readiness programs.
- The Army will go to any length to recover missing personnel. The means by which recovery can take place are, but not limited to, joint task forces that are manned by other armed services, use of multinational forces, political entities, and ground assets. The Army maintains its commitment to recover any personnel that are listed as isolated, missing, detained or captured.
