While you may think that you are going to save yourself some money, and end up with more materials to tie more flies, or better tools to tie those fly fishing flies with, you will want to take a step back and think about what you are really going to be spending.
Purchasing low quality, or cheaply priced fly tying tools, and materials could end up costing you more money than you would have spent if you'd have purchased higher end gear in the first place.
Fly Tying Vise When you are tying your flies, how many times have you had the hook come loose from the vise? If you purchased a low quality fly tying vice, you are probably dealing with this problem more than you like.
Higher end vices provide much better holding power than the cheap knockoffs being produced.
Fly Tying Scissors The scissors that you choose go a long way in how you are able to handle the materials you are using.
Low quality scissors are going to be made of cheap metals, which do not remain sharp for very long.
They are going to end up tearing the materials, and causing the flies to fall apart because you have to fight with the thread and materials instead of being able to cut it cleanly.
Fly Tying Materials The materials that you use greatly determine the life span of the flies that you tie.
Cheap materials, especially tying thread is going to allow the flies you use to fall apart incredibly easily.
Using high quality materials saves you money by allowing you to get a lot longer lifespan from your flies.
