How to Make a FAT32 Partition on a Mac
- 1). Click the "Finder" icon in the Dock and locate the "Utilities" folder in the "Application" folder. Double-click "Disk Utility." If you are creating the FAT32 partition on an external drive, plug it in now.
- 2). Click the icon of the drive where you will create the partition in the left side of the window. Click the "Partition" tab to view and modify the current drive partitions.
- 3). Click and drag at the bottom of the "Volume Scheme" diagram if you want to resize a Mac partition to create space for a new FAT32 partition. Otherwise, click the drop-down menu above the diagram and click the number of partitions you want to create.
- 4). Enter a name for each new partition. If you used the drop-down menu to select a multiple partition scheme, you can change the size by entering a new number in the "Size" field. Click the "Format" drop-down menu and select the "MS-DOS (FAT)" option for each partition you want to create as FAT32.
- 5). Click "Apply" after making changes to any new partitions. Wait for Disk Utility to finish formatting the new file system. Click the "Quit" option from the "Disk Utility" menu.
