Design an Engineer Resume
- State a clear and concise engineering-related objective at the top of your resume. This will signify your interest in the job that is available and may help the hiring company narrow down potential prospects. As many employers skim resumes to look for candidates interested in engineering jobs, it is essential that you have a short, informative objective that states your interest in the engineering field. By including an objective that narrows your focus to the job being offered, you are more likely to pique the interest of hiring mangers as they sift through hundreds of resumes, many which do not relate to the field that they are hiring for and can set you apart from the crowd.
- Provide your education in the engineering field next as it is often necessary to have a bachelor's degree in engineering to get a job in that particular field. List any awards, honors or engineering competitions you have won and their relevant subject matter. Make sure to include relevant classes taken in relation to the job at hand and include the name of the college you have attended. Education can be a stringent requirement for any engineering job as it is a very complicated field. Those with education will most likely be considered before those without.
- Add all of your work experience in reverse chronological order. If you have been in school for many years, it is often normal to have some gaps in your employment history. List all relevant jobs in the engineering field, as this will alert the hiring manager to your interest in engineering and will allow them to know that you are capable of working in the field. Include the dates of employment as well as the name of the company. List all achievements while at the job--this shows you have gone above and beyond and have excelled.
