How to Hang a Curtain Rod on a Cinder Block Wall
- 1). Expand your rod to the length you will use, if it is an expandable rod. Measure the rod, noting the measurements on a scrap of paper. Hold your tape measure against the top of your window in the space where you want your rod to sit. Aim for an unbroken line of mortar, as mortar is easier to drill. Mark a line below the tape on the mortar.
- 2). Hold your level against the line to check its straightness. Hold your brackets against the line, placing each bracket a few inches inside of the line and equidistant from the center of the window. Mark the screw holes inside the bracket.
- 3). Drill a hole using the masonry bit on top of the marks you just made. Each hole should be 1/4 inch deeper than your anchors are long but should otherwise match the dimensions of the anchor exactly. Remove dust by pumping the turkey baster into the hole.
- 4). Apply the sealant inside and around the hole. This will prevent water or pests from penetrating cracks in the hole. Allow the sealant to dry completely.
- 5). Put your sleeve anchors through the screw holes on your brackets. Attach the anchors to the holes in the cinder block by placing them inside the holes, then turning them using a ratchet. They should expand on the other end, causing them to stick inside the hole.
- 6). Remove the finial from one side of the rod and guide the rod through the bracket holes. Replace the finial to finish hanging your curtain rod.
