Planning the Perfect Romantic Picnic

101 2
Whether you're looking for a thoughtful anniversary idea or want to impress that special someone with a unique date, a romantic picnic is sure to create a lovely memory and let that person know how much you care for them. A romantic picnic is also great when planned by the lady or the fella. The more customization the better when it comes to things like this, but this guideline can help you plan a romantic picnic not soon to be forgotten.

Create a Yummy Menu

The menu for your romantic picnic can be as lavish or as simple as you wish. You may want to consider his or her favorite meal or a theme to tie the whole picnic together with. If you're planning this picnic last minute or not too keen for cooking, buying pre-made meals is a great idea. Your local grocery store, sandwich shop or takeout restaurant will be just as nice.
Some popular picnic menus include:
  • Traditional: Sandwiches, chips, fruit and cookies
  • French: Bread (French bread, of course!), fancy cheese, crackers and some nice olives
  • Italian: Pasta, garlic bread and a cold antipasto or salad
  • Simple: PB&J's, animal crackers and brownies
  • Southern: Fried chicken, coleslaw and mashed potatoes
  • Seafood: My personal favorite involves going to my local fishmarket and having them steam and crack a couple of lobsters. Add some corn or a baked potato and you have a very special picnic

Be sure not to forget the beverages! For a warm spring or summer day, we would recommend a light, chilled white wine like a Riesling or a nice Rose. There are so many great wines priced at under $20. Use your best judgment on this one. Also consider alcohol laws of your picnic area.

Find the Perfect Spot

The natural beauty and wonderment of the outdoors can create an unmatched ambiance. You may want to go to a special spot you and your other have. You can also select a grassy area overlooking something beautiful like a sunset, lake or cityscape. A regular city park is a nice idea as well.

Have the Right Equipment

For a picnic to be a picnic, you definitely need a blanket and a picnic basket. We recommend an insulated wine cooler bag to make sure everything stays fresh and at the desired temperature.

Impress with the Details

Details make all the difference! One cute idea is having his/her favorite album playing on your smart phone. If you choose to serve wine, there are a ton of ways to add something special. One item we really love is the Picnic Stix. These cute ‘stix' keep your wine bottle and glasses secure in the ground while still having an elegant, romantic look. You can also use inexpensive wine charms or a decorative wine stopper. Centerpieces also make an excellent touch to a picnic blanket. This can be as simple as a candle or a cup of wildflowers.

Tips

? Check the weather
? Wear comfortable but attractive clothes (Stay away from miniskirts unless you like living dangerously!!)
? If you're surprising your other, make sure he/she is wearing comfortable clothes as well
? Don't forget the utensils and plates
? Avoid foods that are sticky or melt
? Bring bug spray and/or sunscreen
? Leave the kids and dogs with a sitter
? Bring a plastic trash bag

Now comes the fun part: planning it! Remember the most important part is spending time with your sweetie, so if it starts to drizzle or you end up borrowing a pocket knife to cut the French bread, NO BIGGIE! It's all part of the experience.
