The current economic situation has hit the job market hard.
What once seemed like a secure career with the likelihood of a full retirement package has become a thing of the past for so many people.
Finding a new job to replace the old is particularly difficult for those who are 50 years old and over.
But that does not have to be a worry if you see it as an opportunity to be more than just an employee.
At 50, you are still too young to retire and you have gained a plethora of knowledge and experience over the course of your employment history.
You are now an expert in what you do.
Perhaps it is time to take all of that expertise and turn it into a business of your own.
You have dreamed of it and have pictured in your mind how you would do it differently if you ran the company.
So why not make it a reality? Since you do not currently have a job, or are in fear of losing the one you do have, it is time to take control of your future.
As an entrepreneur, you make the decisions that are right for you.
You have the freedom of taking all of those ideas you have had and actually implementing them.
You are only limited to your imagination and creativity.
Yes, there will be challenges you will face, but if you plan well in the beginning you will succeed.
At this stage of your life, you understand the risks and are a better judge of what will work and what will not.
Your life skills are greater than a younger person just starting out in life.
As a result, you are much more likely to stick with it and have developed the discipline and commitment necessary to make your new venture work.
So at 50, you know that when life serves you lemons, you really can make a lemonade stand and prosper.
