    • 1). Open your Start Menu by either clicking the "Start" button on your desktop or by pressing the "Windows" key on your keyboard.

    • 2). Type "Computer Management" into the Start Menu and press "Enter." Your screen will go gray for a moment before loading your Computer Management window. Alternatively, you can access your Computer Management window by going into your Control Panel options, selecting "System and Maintenance," "Administrative Tools" and then "Computer Management."

    • 3). Double-click on the "Storage" listing on the left sidebar and then click "Disk Management" to bring up a list of your hard drives and partitions.

    • 4). Right-click on your hard drive and click "New Simple Volume" to open the "New Simple Volume Wizard" window. Immediately click "Next" when the window opens.

    • 5). Set the size that you want your new partition to be. Because the Volume Wizard works in megabytes, keep in mind that 1,000 megabytes equals one gigabyte. Once set, click "Next" to pick your drive letter and then click "Next" again.

    • 6). Format your new partition now or click "Do not format this volume" if you want to do it later. Then click "Finish" to create the partition.
