How to Get Score Markers to Show Up in Logic

    • 1). Launch Logic. As it loads, it will display its default project selection dialog, unless this option has been turned off in Logic's preferences. Select "Open" from the "File" menu and locate the project in which you want to display and work with score markers. Logic will load and display the project in its last saved form. Examples of projects where markers are particularly relevant are film scoring projects, traditional songwriting projects and traditional symphonic projects. Markers are particularly important in film projects, in which the composer is often given a video file containing markers that must be referred to while scoring.

    • 2). Click on the gray disclosure triangle next to "Global Tracks" in the upper left corner of Logic's Arrange Area. Global tracks are tracks, such as Transposition and Chords, that apply to every track in the project. When the triangle is clicked, the currently engaged global tracks will appear beneath. The "Marker" track may appear, but, depending on the template used to build the project, it might not appear automatically.

    • 3). Right-click next to "Global Tracks" and select "Marker" from the pop-up menu if the "Marker" track does not appear automatically. Selecting this option will cause the "Marker" track to appear among the global tracks already displayed.

    • 4). Click on the disclosure triangle next to "Marker" in the "Marker" track's track header. The "Marker" track opens and displays its contents. In appearance, it resembles the other global tracks. Any markers already attached to the project -- such as those created by the director of a video you are scoring -- will appear in the track as labeled, colored boxes.

    • 5). Create new markers by moving the playhead to the point at which you want the marker to begin, then click the "Create" button in the "Marker" track's track header. Logic creates a new marker one bar long beginning at the specified point. To shorten or lengthen a marker, hover the mouse cursor over either end of the marker you want to alter until the cursor changes to a Resize cursor, then click and drag horizontally in either direction. Double-click the marker to change the text of the label.

    • 6). Open the "Marker" track in any of Logic's editing windows by following steps 2 through 4, replacing the Arrange Area with your editor window of choice. For example, the "Marker" track is available in the Piano Roll, Hyper Editor and Score Editor windows.
