I have found Michael Winnubst's book, Hemochromatosis An Overload Of Iron In The Body, to be invaluable in the understanding and learning about hemochromatosis, an illness I had been suffering from for years, but have only just been diagnosed with.
It began around two years ago, and I had been experiencing tiredness and weakness for some time.
I went to see my doctor a couple of times, who diagnosed everything from stress to depression.
I then started to experience aches in my joints.
My doctor said this could be the onset of arthritis, after all I am a woman in her early 50s, and this is not uncommon in women of my age.
So I persevered with all the medication I was prescribed.
This went on for just under two years, and things seemed to be under control.
It was only when I went for a routine blood test that a development happened.
The results came back and showed that I had excess sugar in my blood, i.
e.
diabetes type II.
So I had to visit the doctor again.
This time it was a different doctor so I had to explain all that I had gone through over the last two years.
He seemed very interested, and asked would I mind having another blood test as he thought I might be suffering from an illness known as hemochromatosis, whereby my body absorbs too much iron, which is then deposited in different parts of my body.
Eventually I had more tests and they showed that I did indeed have hemochromatosis.
I was terrified, I had never heard of this illness before.
My doctor explained to me that although there is not a cure for it as such, it is managed and controlled by the removal of blood on a weekly basis, known as venesection therapy, which would reduce the iron count in my body.
At this point I realized I had to find out more about this illness, and the options open to me.
I searched on the internet, and I eventually came across Michael Winnubst's eBook, Hemochromatosis An Overload Of Iron In The Body.
As a sufferer of the disease, Michael Winnubst describes his own experiences with the illness and provides a wealth of knowledge in all aspects, from the initial diagnosis to the general management of day to day life.
As he stresses in his eBook, he is not a doctor, but his use of layman's terms from his own experiences are very clear and easy to follow.
The book also features stories from other hemochromatosis sufferers - it really helps to know there are other people out there going through this, and how they manage the illness.
Hemochromatosis An Overload Of Iron In The Body has helped me to understand everything that is happening to me, from someone who has gone through the disease, and is still going through it.
The eBook also provides an interesting section on alternative therapy for those who have not experienced improvement with conventional medicine, as well as some other useful book titles.
Early detection is vital to avoid serious damage to organs, so if you have not been diagnosed with hemochromatosis but you think you may be suffering from it, this eBook will guide you through the next steps to take.
It is a very well written and informative book, even if you simply want to know more about the disease.
It is most definitely a must-read for all hemochromatosis sufferers.
Thoroughly recommend.
